Create stunning designs with Fireworks - presented by Dustin Evans

Web designers rely on multiple tools in order to get designs from concept to completion. Typically, those tools involve a graphic editor for design comps and slicing and a text editor for markup. Most designers will default to using Adobe Photoshop for design comping and slicing. However, great alternatives to Photoshop do exist for web designers. Dustin Evans will be presenting how simple and easy it is to comp out web designs in Fireworks.

Dustin is the Lead Web Designer for RocketTheme, a Joomla template company that is remotely based all over the world. Dustin works has been featured all over the web in CSS galleries and blogs. Dustin also is recognized as zindustry on the web, which is his personal site, which can be found at: zindustry.com

For more than 3 years, Refresh OKC has played a major role in educating and connecting web designers in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area. Some of the most passionate and talented professionals in the industry share their knowledge and help others on a monthly basis. The growth of Refresh OKC is the result of the support from many of you. All of you have truly made this group into the great organization it is today. With a solid foundation and growing member base, Refresh OKC is planning for even bigger and better things in 2010.

During the next few weeks, we will be creating a board of officers to provide leadership and new energy to Refresh OKC. With the newly appointed officers, Refresh OKC will continue to encourage good design, promote web standards and educate people to become better designers.

Why is Refresh OKC seeking nominations for officer positions?

Although there were many of you who have contributed to the success and growth of Refresh OKC, those familiar with Refresh knows that Jeff Davis has been the lifeblood that has kept Refresh OKC going forward. Jeff has done a wonderful job getting us to this point, but Refresh OKC has grown beyond the point of being sustainable by just one man.

Refresh OKC strives to serve the interests of web designers and developers in the community and is continuing to find new ways to uplift web design in Oklahoma City and nurture the local web design talent we have here. In order to do this, we feel that it is necessary to expand Refresh OKC to meet the demands and challenges of this community. Part of this initiative is the expansion of leadership in Refresh OKC with officer positions, each charged with specific goals and objectives to meet the demands of the community. We are seeking passionate individuals for the following positions:

President
President sets the vision and overall goals for the year. Serves as the face for the organization along with the VP. Sets the agenda for Refresh Officer meetings and ensure that officer meetings stay on track. Splits the management of officers with VP. The President can either handle the “administration” side of things and works with the treasurer, sponsorship and activities officers or handle the “community” side of things and works with the membership, communications, and promotions officers.

Vice President
Splits the management of officers with President. The VP can either handle the “administration” side of things and works with the treasurer, sponsorship and activities officers or handle the “community” side of things and works with the membership, communications, and promotions officers.

Secretary
Records minutes during meetings and posts them to basecamp afterwards. Keeps track of schedule and deadlines and keeps herd on track. Basecamp management – keeps after people to get their job done. Reports to VP and President to make sure officer deadlines are met.

Activities
Works with the Treasurer and possibly Sponsorship officers in scheduling events for the next year. Works with the president to ensure that the speakers and events line up with the President’s vision.

Treasurer
Manages money and plans out costs for the next year. Works with the sponsorship and activities officers.
